Personal Testimonials

On the first Sunday of the month, we have a Communion Service, during which time a member of the congregation will give a personal testimony on "I believe in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior because..."

Here is a sample:

Jesus is my Lord and Savior because He created my innermost being. He loves me, guides me, cares for me and forgives me.

When I look at my life it’s like a quilt. My grandmother always said that we are like quilts woven together through Jesus. My quilt has many bright and dark places of cloth which God must have known just where to place each one.

The left hand corner is dark because of the Polio I had as a child but it’s trimmed in a bright color.

I was afraid I couldn’t walk after that surgery at 8 years old and those braces made it really difficult to ride a bicycle, but I did

At 15 I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior, forever.

More bright and pretty colors through school and college…

I married and the quilt of my life was so pretty and with the birth of our sons, it glowed.

The dark color came to the far right when I came down with Addison Disease. Again I was fearful, but why, my faith was string and I trusted in God, so that dark shade also had a brighter color around it’s edges.

Each of us has joys and sorrows, bright days and dark days but the love of Jesus still goes on in each one of us.

I may not be a velvet tapestry, I might even be a crazy-quilt but whatever I am, the Lord made me lovingly, carefully, reverently and exactly right!

I will always love the Lord with all my heart and soul.

Another sample:

"There was a time in my life when the church made a difference. I had breast cancer, yet I had peace. I just knew that everything would be okay...and that came directly from my faith. When I needed someone to listen, my church family was there. When I needed a hug, they were there. When my mother died, there was always someone who gave me just what I needed to make it through. I knew that whatever was to be, it would be okay. I was part of something bigger than myself."

Another sample:

On Sunday, April 1st, one of our members spoke of growing up in
Brazil. Her family was poor.  She had no shoes and could not attend school because of working on the farm.  Her mother was a woman of devout faith and told her daughter to pray for God to help her and to provide for her needs.  She never went without food and, in time, was able to attend school in her teen years.

She came to
America for a fresh start.  She did not have to come here but felt led by God to come to Boston and stay with a friend.  She had a thousand dollars to her name but her friend had agreed to pick her up at the airport and let her live with her as she began her new life.  The friend never showed.  She now found herself in a new country with little money and no language skills.  But God provided and she has worked hard doing numerous jobs in order to make ends meet.

In time, she met her new husband and they began their life together.  She asks for continued prayers as her husband had to move to
Tennessee for employment.  He is hoping to find work in the Boston area but nothing has opened up for him.  She continues to give thanks for all God has done in her life and for the gift of life itself.  She has seen the hand of God at work in all that has happened and God’s guiding presence into the future.
